A common problem I needed a LARGE cabinet to display my 1/72 propliners but anything big enough would leave me with no money left to build anything and take up so much floor space that we would have to live in the shed! Then one day Mrs Proplinergeek said 'how about this space above the stairs?'now here's the catch ' if you decorate the hall n stairs you could make one' Well I was desparate so after much blood sweat & tears here it is While doing the install decided to do the bottom shelf as a diaorama of 50's airport then hows about some apron edge lights then how about some lights in the terminal and maybe a couple of flood lights

Impressive - and a great use of space.... Mind you, looking at the first picture, I thought you'd built it over the window!!

Just a bit of info used T&G floorboard for frame groove is 4mm got polycarb cut to size by firm in Gainsborough will supply e-mail address if required .Total cost of project around £100 polycarb accounting for over half. Still think good value in terms of space

I've needed a new display cabinet after moving house last week (couldn't get the old one up the new stairs), so have invested in one of these from Ikea which is supplied un-assembled (a bit like a large model really). It's a bit pricey but very large and suprisingly good quality and has the option to fit internal lighting, so I would certainly recomend it as one to consider.

I've started moving models in over the last few days, it's a great cabinet, six good sized shelves with loads of space on each.
The cabinet is the 'Liatorp' range. I guess we're not meant to be helping advertise on here, but if I may I would like to add that for a flat packed item this is a very good quality product, with a good finish, needs to be seen to be appreciated. They also do matching cupboards in the same range (to keep paints, unbuilt kit boxes, accesories etc in), although I didn't quite stretch to one of those.
I can't remember where the problem of dust on models was discussed, but my conclusion was that an enclosed glass cabinet seems to be the best solution as it displays your models while virtually elimanting the dreaded dust problem.
