Hello Wendy and welcome to the forum. You've just missed Scale Modelworld which is the largest model show of its type in the world, I'm sure your boys would have enjoyed it. If they have never made a model before, you need to find out what they like, aircraft, cars etc. There are several beginner model kits to be found, just take them shopping and gauge their reaction. There are model shows throughout the country over the year, I'm sure there's a show near you at some point. If you contact me off line, I'm sure I can point you in the right direction or alternatively, have a look at the events listings on the main IPMS web site which has been updated today, there are more events to add for 2011. www.ipms-uk.co.uk/events.htm

;D, Hey there Fibbles, i too have 2 hyper kids especially when they are together! My two absolutely love modelling and they love the shows too, Advice is to start with the simple models as Nick advised and then go from there it is a well worth while hobby and there is plenty to keep them interested!! xxx Woo

I've heard that gluing the kids together can curb the hyperactivity...

Wendy, please ignore the comments from my sad friend above, he does not have children and the IPMS do not have a policy for supergluing children to keep them quiet, I'll chastise him at a later date. As for glues, I prefer liquid poly applied by brush, it's non stringing and is clean to apply. Breathing in the fumes however should be avoided and all glues should be treated with respect, I would advise children be supervised at all times.

Hi Fibbles For the kids you can do worse than getting some Revell Contacta. Complete control over how much they put on and you can spill it Under the long blue cover is a long thin metal tube, not too discimilar to a hyperdermic type needle, so supervison recommended. It's not sharp, but it's not blunt either. Cheers Rich

Thanks again for all the advice. Safer than the glue gun I managed to scar myself with . Mind you I am warming to the idea of the superglue and getting some peace. Wendy x
