I've got a Beaufighter MkVI coming up on my to do list, and am currently researching the colours. I'm trying to find out what the unpainted material the leading edge of the cowling is made of, which I understand is an exhaust collector ring, hence the unpainted finish. Many model makers seem to finish this in a smooth bronze colour, but I've read from some sources that they were fabricated from sheet steel, and the bronzy colour is discolouration of the steel from the exhaust heat. Does anyone have a definitive answer to help clear this one up. I'd be very appreciative. Thanks Rob. (photo c/o etiennedup, hosted on flickr.com)

Many thanks Alfie.
The IPMS Stockholm article states the material as brass which their photos appear to show the colour of, and would explain the array of different discolourations seen on a number of different photos viewed, ranging from light metallic 'clean' shades to almost black similar to oxidised brass.
