Good evening gents,
Does anyone know where I can get hold of the "G" Clamp fixing for a Magnifier Lamp. The one that came with my lamp appears to be made from a very low grade cast material & has cracked at the top rendering it useless.
I did ask at the Aculight stand at Telford as they had just what I wanted on the table, unfortunately I was told they only sell the complete lamps!

Ayup Harley, I also have an Actulite Lamp and had to replace the G' clamp for the base. One of the easiest ways to replace it is to buy a length of threaded rod of the same diameter, heat it and bend it to suit the shape of the clamp. It does work as I've used mine for a couple of years. The alternative is to search ebay or alternatively the junk and charity shops for a replacement. You could also try emailing Actulite and asking if a replacement could be made available, I know you were refused at Telford, but persistence may pay off, also try asking where the clamps are made and ask if you could contact the manufacturer direct.

Thanks for the info gents!
I've designed a fabricated replacement which I am sending to a couple of machine shops I've used in the past.

Actulites aren't cheap. You would think that the G Clamp part of the base would be a bit more robust, This seems to be a problem with many manufacturers lamps. I have a lamp with a mognifying glass that fits into a plastic bracket that screws to the wall. As soon as I went to move the lamp into position I could see the bracket flexing, and thought 'That's going to break sooner or later'. Fortunately the bottom of this bracket was flat, so I simply screwed a block of wood both flush to the wall and underneath flush to the bracket to support it. It cured the problem, but should not have needed doing in the first place. In hindsight perhaps I should have complained to the manufacturer that the bracket was not fit for purpose!
