Just thought that I would share a few photos of one of my latest projects. It's supposed to resemble the Aston Martin used by Michael Caine in the Italian Job film. If you remember it is the "Pretty car" that takes a trip down the side of the mountain courtesy of the Mafia after they have trashed the two E type Jaguars. It started off as a hard top version, but a couple of minutes with the saw sorted that out. Another 10 mins with some plasticard and filler and this is where we are at. The soft top roof came via Ebay from a guy in America that sells spart parts for model cars. The roof needs some filler and a bit of work to sort the join out but I think it looks quite good. The front grille seems to be too narrow on the kit, so I copied one from a DB5 kit that I have. Hope you guys like it. More photos soon

Great start Neil. Is that the Monogram kit?

It is the Monogram kit. It is a second hand one that I picked up cheap on Ebay a while ago. I always feel happier cutting up and old kit to convert rather than a brand new one!!

Just a few photos of the latest progress on this model. After several sessions of filling and sanding, I finally managed to get a primer coat on (followed by yet more filling!!) I should have sanded it down again before the photos :banghead:  Some progress has been made on the chassis and the interior The biggest challenge was changing from a left hand to a right hand drive. Don't laugh too much at my dashboard detailing! More soon Neil

The DB4 kit is the only injection mouded kit of this car as far as I know. It was originally released way back in the sixties I think, by Aurora along with a Maserati 2500. I believe that both these were re released by Monogram a number of years ago.........Maybe we can expect to see them under the Revell label sometime in the future? Nice model Neil. It takes a lot of nerve to do this sort of conversion. look forward to seeing the finished article.

Just a small update to show recent progress. The engine bay is pretty much finished The kit wheels are a bit naff as the tyres seem too big, so I found some in a DB5 kit that look better and decided to copy them in resin. I wanted the original wheels to use on the DB5 for a future build. The kit one is at the bottom left in the photo, and the DB5 one at bottom right. I think the resin ones turned out quite well and a quick shot of Alclad chrome should see them spot on. More soon

Hi Neil I agree that the wheels look pretty naff. I replaced mine with a set I acquired from an Airfix Hi-Tec E-type. Alternatively you could do a lot worse than get a set from Profil24. They're gorgeous. Alice and Jean-Philippe are very helpful. Rich

OK guys, the latest progress on this one. The body has been sprayed and clear coated and has eventually been fitted to the chassis. The doors and bonnet are not a very good fit, probably due to the age of the kit, but they will have to do. The wheels are only temporary, I borrowed them from a DB5 kit for the photos, as the proper ones are waiting to be sprayed with Alclad. Have a look and see what you think More updates soon, probably when it's finished and lined up with the Jaguars!!
