'Big Foot' is a 923-A1 Paul, different animal, although there are similarities. If I remember, I'll bring the info to the meeting tomorrow evening.

How does one do or organise a SIG thingy and how does it run? Is it like a campaign thread like on Armorama?
Do they have deadlines for builds or it just build and post it?
A Brit Army truck build SIG for any scale sounds just the thingy to find out any other builds on the go.

Nige Ayup Nige, IPMS (UK) have several SIG's or special interest groups, Chris Cooper (Lonewolf) is the leader of the Truck SIG. As Admin of the forum, I've setup a board on here so that truck modellers can post their builds, mind you, I didn't need much persuading, I ran the 'Trucks and Emergency Vehicle' SIG for several years. At the moment, we have a couple of threads going ... a general truck build, and the 'Weathering Challenge'. The truck build is open ended and was basically started to get truck modellers to take part, and to come out of the woodwork, as hopefully we're going to start showing our models again at Truckfest and Gaydon and at local model shows. The 'Weathering Challenge' started on January 1st, basically to encourage truck modellers to have a go at weathering their models, as I feel it brings them alive. I don't have a problem with a military build ... fancy it then Nige?

Tell me how and what I need to know and do? A British Military truck build would be good for all scales and all periods, but would that be too limiting as I have seen a loverly FreightLiner DROPS and trailer combination on this American site www.tpub.com/Lots of fantastic drawings and detail information for various pieces of kit. Worth a good browse through, just be prapared with tea and sandwiches cause you will drool over lots of stuff that could be built. Nige

Rear drive axle construction I used a Mercedes heavy duty set that had to have the drive shaft thickened using plastic tube and has aluminium tube inserts that will eventually be glued into the resin wheels and be inserted into the plastic tube after chasis completed The spread of the rear wheels was increased and will require new 'U' bolts added to the axles. The drop arms were also lengthened using the plastic from cotten buds I am hoping the axles will retain their articulation once completed and detailed This is what the rear axle should look like at the end I still need to see what the rest of the axles look like with their brake actuators, plumbing and stearing ball joints, etc

I don't see why not HOWEVER I would be inclined to restrict them to dedicated cargo carrying military wheelie thingies, not some vague truck with machine guns hanging out of every hole ;D
AS for the SIG Nige, you have to be a member of IPMS, then send me your Name, IPMS number, location and you are in.
Isn't there a Truckfest somewhere in Scotland??? ;D

Hi Folks I found these at a craft shop and wondered what you think of them for use as the NATO towing pintle for the DROPS? They are used for necklasses and the like but to my mind have a reasonable resemblance to the pintles. It looks like it would be easy enough to secure them to the chassis using the ring and might allow it to pivot if shown towing a fixed eyelet trailer. The advantage of allowing the pintle to be opened and closed instead of having to make a cut in a plastic version. I know I would never get a plastic hinge to work at that scale. I have still to get the sizes of the real pintles to scale it down but I know these come in a few sizes. What do you think? Nige

Making a start on the trailer axles and leaf springs Found an unusual source for the first leaf of spring by straightening out a 'u' shaped strip of metal that last saw action in my wifes bra that dug in too much (to my wife,,,,,,,,,,,,,not me I hasten to add). She's not got my size!!!!!!! The additional layers of plastic strip made up the 7 leafs on each I decided to drill out the centre rear of the resin hubs to insert plastic tubes that will in turn insert directly into the axles so that I can spray the model with the resin wheels off as they will hang heavy on the axle and spring hangers I had to build up the height of the rear axle sring hangers as per the real trailer using plasticard (laminated and glued to give me the thickness I needed as I had no plasticard thick enough) These will be glued onto the axles and will have a plate and "U" bolts added Nige

Still working on the King trailer axles 'U' bolts added by pinching the copper wire holding balloons that my kids got in the shopping mall over xmas. What a bad daddy. Had to burst their balloons first!!! Front axle of trailer has the leaf springs fixed directly on top of the axle The rear axle has blocks added to give the rear of the trailer the same ride height as the front The wheels are fitted to plastic tube that is inserted into the trailer axles It's getting there slowly Nige :-H :-H :-H :-H
