This is probably a dumb question ...
Is there a standard for width / length of modern RAF / RN airfield runway / dispersal lines?
I'm looking to do a few diorama bases - runway and dispersal - and would like to get the dimensions for the following
1 - runway centre-lines 2 - runway "piano keys" 3 - runway numbers 4 - yellow dispersal parking lines 5 - dispersal "squares" (i.e. if tarmac is divided into squares) 6 - taxy lines
I don't mind if I get scale or real life versions - as long as I know the scale.
Thanks for any info

Hi Chocks
Have you tried looking at some of the airfields on Google Earth. It's now possible to look at so many military and civil airfields on there at the punch of a button and you can zoom in real close to see a lot of detail.
If you see a truck, a car or even the occasional aircraft anywhere, you can use that as a basic guide to compare the size of the features you want to replicate.
Put up RAF Lossiemouth UK and you will fly direct to the base in seconds. Type in your next destination and Google will take you right there too in seconds.
Hope that helps.

As Nige says, using Google Earth is great for overhead detailed views.
There is also a Measuring Tool on the task bar. By selecting this (and setting it whether you want the info in Metres or Feet) you can then measure the distance between any two points.
By using this method you can get the complete dimensions of the whole airfield/airport.

Nige, Alfie & Mike
Many thanks for the info - some light reading ahead! I'll try Google Earth - my worry (but not tested) would be the lack of resolution to get a suitable level of accuracy). It'll be no worse probably than that of my models and may well be better.
Cheers and thanks again
