Not good news I'm afraid... Despite many attempts to contact the people concerned, including emails, and formal letters, three SIGs remain outstanding for returns and SMW 2011 display applications. One of these is the Photo-Recce SIG.
We've tried contacting Colin via email, phone (number not recognised), and letters to his home address and c/o Aeroventure, but he appears to have gone to ground, no response at all. Sometimes that can be due to other issues, and I've offered help, but had no response. Now that the deadline in the latest letter has passed, I'm hoping other SIG members can advise. Could any SIG members with any news, please contact me asap!
The SIG is now well overdue, and is thus reluctantly placed on a formal Year’s Warning. As space is already oversubscribed for the Branch and SIG displays - we are grappling with that by reducing some table spaces where we can - it is unlikely that the SIG will have a display allocation for SMW this year. Ensuring the continued long term existence of the SIG is the bigger issue right now.

. Phil - thanks for the official information - no good news indeed.
let's hope the best for Colin who is unavailable for whatever reason.
As one of a few SIG members from abroad I very much hope some native member will be able to come forward and at least keep the SIG going.
Thanks again, Rolf aka popeye .

I'd do it myself, unfortunately I need to offload commitments, I'm not in a position to take any more on. Anyone else more available?

Sadly, no. All my attempts at contacting him have so far failed.

Thats good news none of us seem to have heard from him for a while.
If he is going to give up leadership of the SIG then I am sure we can come up with something, we just need to know one way or the other.

URGENT - Guys do we want to display at this years Telford as looks like the EC may be giving our space away.
I think we will have to act on this quickly, I dont think very fair if we get no space due to one person being unavailable?
Whats the feeling??

Hi Julien and all
The 'one person' is the SIG Leader - and all will know well that they are key to the running of their group. If the SIG Leader fails to send in a return or booking, and doesn't respond to our repeated reminder emails and letters, then the Exec Ctte is now left with no realistic options - as the show layout has to be planned well in advance to meet commercial publication deadlines.
Space has been heavily oversubscribed this year in any case, and a number of other SIGs and Branches - who did complete their return and display bookings - will still unavoidably have reduced allocations. I'll be letting those know individually, now that I know the detail of that. So no space has been 'given away'...
In view of that factor, in addition to the continuing non-response, then it remains unlikely that the Photo Recce SIG will have space for this year. If a new leader is willing to step into the breach if Colin is unable to continue, then that would be good news, as that will ensure the continued existence of the group, and it can then start afresh to plan a display in 2012.
As of now, unfortunately, the SIG remains on the Year's Warning.
Regards,
Phil

Dear All, It would be a shame if the SIG were to fold. Can I suggest we have a short get-together at Telford this year to talk about options for where we go from here? I suggest Saturday 15:00 (which will mean people have had a chance for an initial recce of their own round the halls ), spot to be decided. All those in favour please say so. Any further word from Colin? Cheers, Mike

Unfortunately I don't have the 2010 return, which I assume Rob still has. This would only provide 4 other names, so it seems to me the SIG would have to be relaunched unless Colin can provide a list etc to a new leader. He's not been in touch but I would hope he would be in a position to provide some kind of handover.
Always happy to assist in a PR SIG relaunch eg through the branch and country mag column, but of course, as I keep harping on, the vital ingredient is an enthusuastic rather than pressganged leader. And, learning from this, and similar problems elsewhere, a (perhaps slightly pressganged!) nominated deputy will be an additional requirement for the 2012 returns.
If I can spare time I may be able to be at your meeting to advise. How about behind the Avon(?) display, Mike? But if you could avoid 'top of the hour' as the newscasters say, that would be better for me as I need to oversee the onerous duties handovers at front of house etc.

Happy to move it - say 15:10? As for location, I'd suggest the catering area rather than behind the Avon stand. Not being unsociable, you're welcome to drop in behind the Avon stand and say hello anytime, it's a question of numbers and available space. I do also realise that there are those who will be coming up for Sunday rather than Saturday - would appreciate your input too guys. The input particularly welcome would be someone, and this includes Colin, willing and able to assume the mantle of leader. Organising an ad-hoc get-together is not a commitment to take on the lead role. I'm afraid I will be unable to give it the necessary time and attention in the immediate future, if this was otherwise I possibly would. Hope to see you at Telford, but any online thoughts in the thread welcome.

. Mike and All,
Wouldn't it be a pity if not one of some six or seven native recce SIG members would be willing to stand in or take over ?
Whatever the reason for Colin's disappearance - I'm still hoping to see him back sometime.
I really think it mandatory for the SIG leader to be native for several reasons. Is the job itself really that time consuming?
Organising, setting up and manning a table at the nats may be so, but not the administative side I presume.
I am trying to keep the idea alive here in central europe and am very much hoping for some native recce SIG member to take over.
