Remember this thread guys? ipmsuk.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=pr&action=display&thread=9243I'm proposing a short get-together at Telford on Saturday at 15:10 in the catering area, at the kit-swap end. Aim is to discuss the future of the SIG, and whether there is the wish to continue it. I suggested Saturday as I guessed most people would come that day, but I know at least one of us will be coming Sunday - if there's enough coming we can have a similar get-together on the Sunday, but perhaps earlier, in the day; let me know. Anyway, who will be there? Please indicate in the thread or PM m, hope to see you there.

Thanks Julien. I suppose it depends what you're judging - an esoteric class with two entries I'll expect you, something involving 1:48 aircraft perhaps not Hope to see you there, but in any case interest noted and appreciated. Any more ...?

Mike,
I can be there on Saturday afternoon, just a point though has anyone really considered why Colin withdrew? I don't know the reasons at all and I will miss him at SMW this year as he is a very generous and hard working bloke. The thing is though, for the past few years he attended set up the table and manned it almost full time by himself. Last year I think it would be fair to say that the only two people who spent any time manning the SIG table was Colin and myself and pretty much the same the year before except for our Swiss friend. For personal reasons I know he travelled back to Doncaster overnight and travelled all the way back to Telford for the Sunday. Yes several people put their models on the table first thing Saturday and the next time we saw them was Sunday afternoon when they came to collect them. Don't get me wrong I not digging at individuals per se but to be honest it takes far more than a couple of commited people to run a SIG and its show table . I know also from reading these pages last year that several other members pledged that they would turn up at the show but for whatever reasons fell by the wayside at the last minute. So maybe it might just be that we should let it rest, as one of the reasons I didn't put myself forward as a new SIG leader is that I didn't want to volunteer to lead only to be left holding the baby with no support and by judging by the response to this thread supporters are still thin on the ground.
Cheers

Hi Ian,
I have spoken to Colin, as has Viper, and I hope he won't mind me saying that his withdrawal was for reasons unconnected with support, or any lack of same, from the members.
The trouble with SIGs is that a lot of the time members are also members of an IPMS branch. In my case, I had models on the Recce SIG stand, the US Air Forces WWII stand, and my branch, Avon. The latter, for reasons I hope everyone will understand, is my "home base" and my priority during the weekend - but I do get to the other stands, although I felt thinly spread the year I had models on 4 SIGs!!
Anyway, thanks for responding, see you Saturday. Any more?
Mike

OK folks, sorry this is a bit late, but we had the meeting at SMW. The outcome is that the SIG will continue with myself in the role of SIG leader. I will be contacting Colin for a handover of membership lists etc shortly. In the meantime, could any members here present let me know who you are and your particular interest. My leadership will be on a "care and maintenance" basis for now for reasons I won't bore you with, so I will for now maintain the paperwork, send in the return, and keep things ticking over on the basis of a "knowledge network" - no newsletter, no fees, no website, but a "community of interest". Once next year is over, I would hope to start taking the SIG to a show or two other than Telford perhaps, (I will of course request a slot at Telford for 2012) and whatever other developments occur to us. There was a general agreement that we drop the "Photo" and we rebrand as the "Reconnaissance" SIG (or "Recce" SIG); this will widen the interest to include SIGINT, ELINT, etc, and could even include non-aircraft genres like armour. (I have a personal interest here, as although I'm a dedicated dyed-in-the-wool builder of wings and rotors, my late Father was in the Reconnaissance Corps in WWII.) So for now, thanks for your support, both to date and (I hope) in the future. So current members, and anyone else interested, please PM me on here. I will also be aiming to put a bit in the mag for those who do not frequent this forum. Finally, I am still building the Testors 1:48 SR-71. It looks like a Blackbird, although a bit weird in overall grey primer! I'll leave you with a thought expressed on a T-Shirt seen at Tankfest this year: "Recce do it in front of everyone else". MikeC

. Thanks Mike. Good idea that all interested should get to you by pm, even if some kind of membership rooster is already available under the Recce Sig thread. And I fully agree with shortening the Name to "Recce SIG". in fact I am trying to hold up the idea here in central Europe by using this for displays here and in Germany. And good modelling with your SR-71 ! Rolf

Mike, good afternoon, I am very happy that the SIG is continuing, I had always thouight of it as the Recce SIG in anycase, as all the other types are simply addon's to reconnaissance. Regards, Iain Peddle

I am really glad that the recce sig is still up and running. I like your idea of incorparating other Recce types,ie:-Armour and maybe Navy too. I think this may open up to new members and a table with variety of subjects for the public to see.
What ever, its nice to see that the sig is continueing.
