hi, continuing to experiment and improve my modelling technique, I have ordered a 1/48 Aires cockpit for my P51D. The italieri kit issue is rubbish!
The more I read about these resin kits and photoetch parts the more scared I get. Can anyone offer any advice that would help a beginner here?
i'd hat to ruin the resin kit, or the work I have done on the main kit so far.
thanks guys.

Aires sets are pretty impressive. There's usually not much that you need to do to get a good result. Just a case of painting it to your satisfaction. The only real chore is making the parts fit inside the cockpit. They usually have a fairly chunky base (part of the mould) and you have to cut it off in order to fit it into the cockpit space. The difficulty is because the base part usually has to be cut away almost completely so you run the risk of hacking away too much and damaging the moulded part. The only key to success is to saw the moulded base off carefully and slowly, or use a very coarse abrasive paper for the last bit, so that you don't damage the interior.
No magic involved though, it's just a case of doing things slowly!

A couple of other bits to note is when sanding/cutting resin it's best to wear a dust mask and before painting give it a wash in warm soapy water to get rid of any mould release agent. And Tim's right take your time and check the fit often, you can always take more off but it's not so easy to put back on if you go too far. Good luck Dave
