In a book entitled "Bedford buses of the 30's and 40's" there are pictures of articulated buses drawn by Bedford OB's. Too large to be used on public roads in peacetime, they operated within the grounds of large factories. A length of 30' is mentioned, but they look longer. Does anyone know where I can find accurate dimensions and proportions, please?

Madmalc, I haven't seen the book on the artic-buses BUT I know that here in South Australia a company that operated out of one of our seaside towns use to have a Bedford prime mover towing a 40 footer bus coach type thing on a regular run from the town to the city of Adelaide during the 50's & 60's, it headed to Adelaide in the morning and return to the town called Victor Harbour in the evening it was taken out of service when the then Government deemed it too dangerous even though it had a top speed back then of around 45 mp/h. I look for this book either in bookshop here or on-line. Dingo

Thanks for that interesting snippet. Typical British thinking: if it's considered dangerous, exile it to Australia! Within a few days, I was able to buy three books in the "Bedford buses of the..." series, namely "...30's and 40's", "...50's and 60's", and "...70's and 80's". One of them was signed by the joint author. On a totally different note, I also bought a cardboard kit, printed in UK in 1/87 scale for the Netherlands market, of a Crossley tractor unit pulling a DAF bus trailer. Somewhere in my mess I now have a 1/24 photocopy of it, together with a partially-converted Italeri Scania (described on the box as Aussie), which bears more than a passing resemblance to the UK Crossley. One day....

Yea madmalc I know the Scania ya talking about when I bought the kit I thought about time some did a proper job of making a model of an Aussie truck,boy I was suckered in when I opened the box it had a LHD dash, single drive axle instead of bogie and a few other things where wrong BUT I can't think of them right now it's almost 6am here I've been up since 4am and I'm about to go back to bed for a few hours, BUT hey whose complaining oh yea Malc another kit that is suppose to be Aussie and gets it slightly wrong is the T900 Kenworth by Revell we don't have the battery boxes under the cab Kenworth Australia put fuel tanks there the batteries go inside the sleeper or if it doesn't has one usually on a rack behind the cab, again a model maker who can't do their research properly hey. It's all about standardising the parts to keep costs down. Italeri's kits include UK reg plates, but they're all LHD. They're really aimed at 'from the box' modellers. Anyone who is concerned with accuracy will probably go into much greater detail than simply moving the driver across, and the makers have to draw a line somewhere. But, as you say, if the model is labelled as specifically Aussie, it should look Aussie.
