I wonder if the EC are aware of this event? Hi Nick I received the same invite addressed to me as Airfix Modelling SIG leader, I suspect similar invitations are on their way to other Branches and SIGs. The format looks to be similar to other events that the organising company run at other venues. My SIG discussed it at Bolton today and we will not be exhibiting, including set up it will be a four day event, too costly in time and hotels. I will be mentioning it at the EC meeting next weekend for information. Regards Colin

I also got this letter in my capacity as sec IPMS York & North Riding, not however as Truck SIG leader for which I'm better known ;D I happen to already be aware of Meridienne Exhibitions as they run one of the large Model Engineering shows in that calendar, the show at the Alexandra Palace in London. Now model engineering is a smaller hobby than ours and in my local club of around 60 members I am the second youngest and being as I'm in my 40s that should tell you something The Model Engineer is probably the only hobby mag with regular obituaries My point here being that they aren't really catered for with shows like we are. We have loads of regional shows plus a couple of biggies here and there wheres they only have the Sandown show run by Model Engineer mag, The Alexandra Palace one and one in Harrogate I don't know who runs that. And none of them even come close to SMW in size. So I suspect that this is a business venture by Meridienne to attract paying traders and punters and they maybe don't realise that we already have many regional shows. Parts of the letter are interesting too: "As is our policy there is no charge made to any society for the space occupied, lighting or insurance"I should flippin' think not As discussed on another forum earlier this year I wouldn't go to any show that made a charge for displaying. I give up my time and petrol etc etc to provide your show with a display. They are also pushing the fact that it should do plenty for the various forms of modelling on show. This implies that it could be an across-the-board model show which I for one would applaud. For too long have the various branches of modelling kept themselves apart. I'd quite like to go to a show that had plastic modelling and railway modelling and model engineering all together. I haven't decided whether to attend as a branch yet, but I might be a visitor.

For info, the Hawk AJT SIG also received an invite. We won't be attending for the same reasons (time/cost) given above.
Cheers,
Rob
