As i'm new to the Society, i'd like to share what I have made so far for my collection. When I moved into my quarter at RAF Brampton, I was lucky to have a 'spare room' (was the dinning room, not anymore) and this has become my 'man' room. It keeps my wife happy as all of the kits are in one place, although some of the bigger builds I have in the pipeline I hope to put in cases and bring them into the living room.
The collection i'm building is built in the memory of my late grandad, who got me into modeling when I was a kit. A portion of the inheritance which he left me has allowed me to purchase an airbrush etc, so that I can build to a higher standard.
Over the last year i've been trying out new tips and tools and hopefully that can be seen as my builds progressed.
I got back into modeling seriously last year and over the time period i've moved on to trying airbrushing and weathering, amongst other skill sets. I normally post on Fighter Control, however i'm looking to branch out to other forums and clubs for tips and advice, etc.
I started the collection by diving into the deep end with Revells Mirage 2000-5 in Tiger meet colours.
I then went on to try my first build in a scheme that didn't come out of the box, with Revells P-47 Thunderbolt. The markings on the fuselage and the noseart are hand painted.
This was the next build, in the largest scale i've built and was also my first attempt at rigging. 21st Century Toys
Bf-109G-14AS
These 2 Matchbox F-4 FGR.2 Phantoms followed next. The Canadian CF-4 was build for a 'what if' GB and is almost completely hand painted, due to the decals which came with the kit, crumbling on contact with water.
This is PMs boxing of the Turkish Stars NF-5A, which was built in a very short time period.
This build was started after the P-47 and sat in a box for ages neglected due to a really poor paint job, but after some TLC I managed to save it. Airfix F-86F Sabre.
This is ESCIs offering of the F-104, which suffered from the same decal problems I had with the CF-4. All of the 'decals' other than the roundels are hand painted.
Airfix's old boxing of the Gnat.
After these I purchased the airbrush and haven't looked back.
