I have a blown up drawing of the Do 217A and would like to build it. It does not seem to be too difficult a conversion, except for the engines which were DB601's. Can anyone suggest which kit I should cannibalize to get the correct engines, or which would make a good starting point to convert. Also does anyone have a decent plan of the aircraft and engines. Any suggestions will be gratefully received.

Well iain - quite a project I'd say Seriously - the ICM Do 215 would be a good starting point - not cheap but featuring DB 601 engines which might easyly be adapted for a 217 A. On the other hand you would have to modifiy the clear parts and lengthen the lower part of the cockpit - you might have to mould new transparencies if you are after something "realistic". It all depends on what you are willing to invest in time and money - see my build report on the ICM Do 215 here in Luftwaffe recce! If you still want to have a go, collect all available data there is - and that's not very much..... Linch pin is - why the 217 A which was a development version of just 6 examples built ? Willing to help with what I have - but don't expect much ..... Rolf

Evening Rolf, Thank you for your reply. I do have the ICM 215, so it means getting another one. Its a nice challenge to build, and they were used for PR purposes after all. The other minor point, which always catches me out ,is the correct markings. The colour scheme is quite standard, but I am presuming that it will have the ObdL codes, and a bit of artistic licence for the a/c letter and Staffel will come in handy.

. you may also try to obtain one of the DB 601 engine conversion sets from > Rai-Ro, german internet shop instead of shelling out for another ICM 215.
You will have to use and modify an Italeri 217 fuselage anyhow.

Afternoon Rolf, Thanks for the reply, however , after eventually managing to get in to the site, I couldn't find any conversions though. Also, the P&P from the EU is horrific at our rate of exchange, so I'll take a miss there. Thanks anyway, Iain.
