I'm working on the Airfix Do-17E/F, and have been researching markings. In K.A. Merrick's Luftwaffe Colors Vol 1, p.68 shows a Do-17E-1 in special air exercise markings from 1938, having a red disc painted over the balkan crosses. Michael Ullmann's Luftwaffe Colors 1935-1945, p.46 has a black & white photo of the same aircraft, but states the discs were painted in washable black paint. The fuselage disc appears to be the same tone as the red band on the aircraft's tail surrounding the hackenkreuz. I'm inclined to go with red vice black discs, but wanted to ask if anyone on the forum had more information, or at least an opinion?

IMHO Michael is correct. He seems to have had access to umpteen original documents from that time.
