To All Members of the IPMS NASA SIG, and in fact any potential members.
Since we formed in September 2007, we have now grown to 9 members. So I am posting this as a Heads Up regarding the 50th Anniversary display at SMW 2008.
I know SMW is quite a way off now, but November 14th will be upon us all too quickly.
To this effect I am now sorting out what we already have for the display, and what members are going to build for the display. Remember, we are covering all of NASA from 1958 to 1008, not just the Manned Space Program.
To assist with this, can you e-mail me back outside the forum to:- IPMSNASASIG@AOL.COM. If you wish, you can send me a list via snail mail if you prefer. My address is in the SIG lists in the main web site By doing this I can create a mailing list to help keep in contact with each other.
To any member of IPMS who would like to join the NASA SIG, or you know a member of your club or SIG that has a model he or she would like to loan for the display, please contact me, as you may just have the model we don’t have!
By the way, if you want to see me, I will be at the following shows, behind the Aircraft Carrier SIG. Southern Expo – March IPMS Torbay – May IPMS Salisbury – June IPMS Avon - August
Cheers for now.
Paul S

Top marks if you notised the typo. Salisbury is in fact 31st May, not June Bum... I was hoping to win the King Aethelred conspiracy prize for being the first to spot the fact that NASA actually invented the time machine... To this effect I am now sorting out what we already have for the display, and what members are going to build for the display. Remember, we are covering all of NASA from 1958 to 1008, not just the Manned Space Program. Never mind - you owe me a pint on Saturday

This is a quick note to let you know what is happening with the SIG so far. I have sent back our Annual Return Form and SMW booking form, I have requested 12 feet.
We now have 16 members in the group. Most have access to the Forum, where this fails I will just send out newsletters via alternative e-mail methods.
For those not on the internet, I am also sending updates out by standard letter, so no one will miss out.
The list of models available for the inaugural display is growing. I know one of the group has sent me a list of additional models but I have sadly lost this and any other e-mails sent to me in the last 2 years. I made the mistake in believing AOL technical, when I upgraded to AOL V 9.0 VR. All my previously setup mail folders on my local PC were overwritten. Anyway that’s my problem.
One of our new members has added this selection to the list: Monogram 1/32 CSM Monogram 1/72 Orbiter (space shuttle) Revell 1/144 Boeing 747 with Orbiter in early scheme Revell 1/12 Apollo Moon Walker Astronaut EVA 1/32 Lunar Rover
Remember, you can add to the list, so we can keep up to date and avoid too many duplications. But I would rather have too many than non at all.
Cheers for now. Paul S

1/48 X-15A-1 (in final build - this would give me the incentive to finish it) 1/72 Gemini-Titan (in build) 1/48th Apollo CSM (If it can transport safely)
1/72 CSM (Scratch built) If it works, it will be attached to Airfix “LM Eagle” in flight 1/144 Airfix Saturn 1b (in construction - If someone has one built, I can stop).

Quick update on my Saturn V. Have just added Realspace Models Apollo CSM (looks much better than the Airfix one) and picked up a set of Space Model Systems Ultimate Decals. Just a lot of pesky masking to do now. Not sure how I'm going to prevent bleed across the transitions from Black/White on the 'corregated' bits - any advice welcomed!
Cheers,
Rob M.

Hi All.
Just a quick message. we have had a few more people join the SIG. I managed to get 3 at the IPMS Saliisbury show and 1 at the Torbay show. I will be posting another kit update in the next few days, with off-Forum e-mail to those who may miss it.
I have started to build a display, and will post a picture or two on the forum (if I can figure out how to do it?).
regards. Paul S

Hi Rob.
Re: masking of the corrugations. I wonder if using the old Humbrol Mascol would help, ie reverse mask the area to be painted, use mascol as a barrier to prevent bleed-over, then place the proper mask over this. I have the same problem with SA-205 (Apollo 7 Saturn 1b) and I am going to try this method.
As for the Real Space replacement for the CSM/LM Adapter unit, is this as good as they say? I am scratch building a fatter CSM from sheet plastic around the Airfix original, to get a more believable set of dimensions for the CSM.
regards. Paul S
