Rob monfea, Yes will gladly accept the offer of models! Let me be clear, understand Spitfire PR XIX, Mosquito PR IX and prototype RF 4C, but what scale are they, merely thinking about the amount of space that we need..... Colin

OK, amused that cat tonight by getting newly acquired shelves out on dining room table, arranged how I'm planning for SMW 2006, and then got my boxes of models out, and started experimenting with space and placement. Two broken aerials and a sorry looking Spitfire later....
I reckon that we can quite easily display ALL the models proposed so far, with enough space for labels and info, with no major problems.
Now I know the scales of most of the models, but not all, so worked on the assumption that the ones I don't know, were 1/48, just hope their not 32' or 24'!
Just to confirm I've got the right models, here's what I worked on:
Rob Monfea-Spit PR XIX, Mosquito PR 4, Prototype RF 4C, I don't Know what scale, but worked on 1/48
Mike C- Mustang (times 2)at 1/48, Hurricane PR II and Spit FR XIV both at 1/72
Ted Taylor-Phantom RF 4C (times 2) both at 1/48
Julien.D-Crusader RF 8, Banshee, and Seafox, all at 1/72
and then my lot of Spits, Mosquitoes, Hornet, and Mitchell all at 1/48
All on a series of 4 shelves, placed at the back of the tables, to either side, with a completely open front to the table, with a central "gap" 0f some 2 foot at the back and central. Shelves, originally black, have been sprayed with plastic primer to give a vaguely grey concrete look, more in keeping with a "runway" look for bigger aircraft and jets.
Hope that gives some idea of plan so far, by the way its not 4 shelves on top of each other, rather 3 shelves on the outside, with a single shelf "inboard of them, if need be still got room for more shelves, to get an idea of what it might look like, go and have a look at Avon IPMS website and pictures of some of there previous stands.
Got enough, vaguely RAF Blue cloth, to cover table, and the "front half" will be covered in grass "lookalike" sheet for the smaller stuff to go on. Working on "banner" to promote name/identity of SIG, any ideas much appreciated. Hope this gives you update of thoughts and progress so far, any suggestions, feel free....

Re previous post, Aeroventure are having a Model show on Sunday the 13th of August, anyone interested ring Aeroventure at Doncaster museum and ask for Martin. I will be attending as it's my local venue and having a go at the "set up" with shelves that I hope to use at SMW 2006......
Anyone else fancy showing?

Have based all calculations about size, on 12 foot frontage by 2 foot wide tables hence me obtaining shelves. Imagine my surprise tonight to get email confirming 12 foot frontage, but 2 tables deep, at 2 foot wide each, ie 4 foot deep! We do indeed have plenty of room!!!
Anybody want to add anything to display, anybody else fancy displaying any models with Photo Recce SIG.............

You chaps seem the right ones to ask about this. All the WW2 stuff is understandable, but does anyone know about the history of the Learjet for PR? The FAA had 2 or 3 35As specially adapted for PR and lost one of them over the Falklands (Sea Dart from HMS Exeter): I have a certain amount of info including pics, but the Revell or Hasegawa (same mouldings, maybe) kits will need the camera pod scratchbuilt - a box-like addition beneath the centre section - and I haven't located any pics that show camera apertures clearly... Any advice, tips, someone tried this before, any other air forces used the Learjet this way...? Thanks - RPG

Dear rpg, No knowledge of Lear jets being used in recce, but have a suggestion, go and have a look at www.spyflight.co.uk , just had a quick look and no Lear jet, but as you will see a comprehensive site and the chap certainly seems to know his stuff, believe he is serviceman, contact him, he may be able to give you direction... If you have any interest in recce/aircraft/operations/little known stuff, etc.... Then go and have a look at this website, its very good, informative, and well laid out. The chap obviously knows his stuff. www.spyflight.co.ukColin

The Finnish Learjet LJ-2 appears to have a camera pod underneath it. Here is a photo. Ted

The Finnish Learjet LJ-2 appears to have a camera pod underneath it. Here is a photo. Ted Thanks, interesting - the Finnish AF Learjet LJ-3 I photographed last year at Fairford has a similar ventral fairing, looks like it's moulded in plastic of some sort - possibly contains radar etc rather than cameras? It's very different from the metal box-like fairing on the Argentine Learjets.... Regards, RPG
