Dear All, Just had a fascinating conversation with a chap who is researching the subject of Reconnaissance, (particularly RAF in WW II), and is trying to trace ex aircrew of those squadrons....hence getting to me with knowing one....Ken, the ex Spitfire PR pilot. Now he is a professional researcher! M, Litt, no less... We got round to talking about books about the subject, and he suggested some to me, and I suggested some to him. However I do not pretend to know about all the books about the subject and am always open to suggestions. Have you any books that you would recommend..... ? Please try and give name, description, and ideally ISBN number so we can try and find them................ Thanks, in anticipation, to the collective conciousness........ Colin

Dear All,
Apart from recommending the books that Matzos has posted about, some books I would recommend,
The Unseen Eye by Air Commodore G. Millington C.B.E, D.F.C, no ISBN, Panther Books, 1965
An author who was a pilot with 2 Squadron, wrote a few books, two of which I would recommend, he has written others....
Swift Justice, about the Swift in squadron service, by Nigel Walpole, Pen and Sword aviation 2004, ISBN 1-84415-070-4
Best of Breed, about the Hunter FR 10 in squadron service, by Nigel Walpole, Pen and Sword aviation 2006, ISBN 1-84415-412-2
Lastly, a book that I would thoroughly recommend, a marvelous read and most informative about Mosquito operations.....get it, read it...!
Focus upon Europe, by Ronald H Foster, a Mosquito PR pilot at war, 1943-45, ISBN 1-86126-718-5

follow on:
Hikoki, "Aufklaerer - Luftwaffe reconnaissance Aircraft & Units 1935 - 1945" Wadman, Bradley, Ketley, 1997 ISBN 0 9519899 8 7 The first and most comprehensive work on the subject obviously also with the modeler in mind. 272 pages, very informative text, drawings, diagrams, data tables on units, wealth of b/w and some colour pics on a/c from He 46 to Arado 234, camera equipment etc, 10 pages of colour side profiles.
Worth every penny and for modelers of Luftwaffe recce a must - highly recommended.
The follow on "ClassicColours" Volumes I & II supplement this book very well, obviously a few pics have been used in both editions without distracting from the value at all.
I am hoping for a follow-up Vol III by Dave Wadman !

Hello Colin & All.
Very good idea having a list of print & other media concerning recce theme - data on this subject usually is not easily found !
May I propose something ?
Having a small excerpt of the contents and value for us modelers in addition to title and ISBN would possibly help even more.
And maybe such a collection of media titles with additional info might be something to be offered to the gentleman of the AIRRECCE site - if he is interested in compiling a reference list ?
might be a small acknowledgment for his superb site and his research (also on our behalf)

I can feel my credit card "cringing" at the thought of the rough treatment it is about to get.......
I feel a bit of internet shopping coming on.

Rolf, Dave Wadman has now just published two new books that cover this subject, he has told me (we speak about once a week) that both books have been updated with a lot more information and there are a greater number of images in these two volumes than in the first book, which I have seen on the internet going for over £100 second-hand. As to adding a list of books to my site, great idea. I'm working on the Luftwaffe pages at this time, so once I get to a natural break I will start on the list.

Hello Matzos - (for lack of first name . first would like to congratulate on yr site - just superb ! Hope you will find enough time to carry on in the same vein ! I bought Aufklaerer - Vol 1 & 2 Luftwaffe reconnaissance Aircraft and units - Dave Wadman - last autumn (soft cover - ClassicColours) - Is the imminent "update" from Dave Wadman an updated reprint of these or something else ? Just wondering if I have to look out for them appearing in print ? If in touch, pls relay my congrats to his work to Dave - I am also following his posts & remarks on LEMB regularly. Rolf
