Has anyone bought the new 1/16 Tiger tank part work? I've bought issue 1, not opened it yet as I'm taking it on the latest Allen outing next week to Ross on Wye, need something to read just in case it rains? If I do continue to the final part, it'll cost in the region of £400 ... gulp!

I don't know how £400 compares for a 1/16th kit (but I bet not well!) however, 50p for a barrel and mantlet seems a good price ;D

It seems my original estimate was way off, it's nearer £600

I bought issue one - well you can't go wrong at 50p - just to see what the model was going to be made of, detail, etc. So now I have a 1/16 scale diecast gun. Will I buy the rest of the tank? Well tucked away in a corner of the fold out advertisement sheet is the information that the model will be delivered over 140 weekly issues. Take into account that they want you to buy the folders too and we're talking around £700 in total. There's more here www.ww2tigertank.com/Regards, Alfie

Having now viewed the promotional DVD which is supplied with part 1, I'm impressed with the detail of the kit. I, like many others who bought the initial introductory pack for the steam train and the Lancaster I eventually decided that they were not for me. I'll buy issue 2 before making a final decision about spending a fair wedge on this particular part work and committing myself to a three year build, but at the moment, I'm tempted. Is there an alternative kit of a Tiger in this scale and if so, what is the price?

Ok here is something else to think about. Have you ever collected an entire partwork collection or even know someone who has? The fact of the matter is there is no guarantee that they will publish the entire part series nor that they will support the product in any way. Even if you subscribe they can always walk off having taken the bulk of the money until the break even point of milking the customer is reached. In short gentlemen its a rip off ..Avoid it.

... In short gentlemen its a rip off ..Avoid it. Always the glass half empty Tim? ... As for being a rip off, I presume that's just your opinion and not substantiated fact? I have just been informed that the there is a Trumpeter kit of the Tiger avialiable for half the cost, but that is a plastic kit with no doubt the addition of photo etched parts.

I'm also a little cynical about these expensive magazine-linked things. Will have a dig.

Good bit of detective work Steve, I read a similar article about the Skeleton part work when attempting to acquire the skull for a project last year. I finally managed to get hold of one from a family friend who's son had become bored with collecting the bits and pieces. To answer Tim's question about knowing anyone who has finished a part work, well, not personally, but someone has finished the Lancaster using aluminium as an outer skin. If anyone has finished a part work, let's hear about your experience, and I'm still interested in the Tiger.

Hi Tim My one and only part work I have bought and still have in the shed to finish id the RC Spitfire. Like all other models it only stalled cause life and stuff got in the way. I do have all parts (plus a couple of spares got sent of cowling which was and accident of theirs which I am not complaining). As for the quality of the pieces,,,,,,,,,,,,great and the instructions too. I would love to see the Lancaster part work completed as it is a little beauty of nice parts. I did not have the cuhoonas or the money anyway to defy my dear wife and buy the lot. But I do have the seven nose pieces. I have also heard of palls cought out by the Subaru RC rally car that had missing parts. Would I do it again? Maybe aye,,,,,,,,,,,,,, maybe no !!!! But probably only if the lotto came up or if I was remembered in a will. Nige

Actually Tim once again we find you mouthing off in an unsubstantiated way about something you know nowt about. I think you'll find that the only way a publishing house can fail to complete the publication of a part work of this kind is to go bust. UK retail and trade legislation means that to fail to do so would result in a potential prosecution under the Sales of Goods act. Starting it and inviting subscription effectively forces you to complete it, at least for those persons who fully subscribe. That's why so many appear to disappear from the newsagents shelves, they effectively go subscription only! THC

My experience of this dates back as far as wings for which several of the last issues were simply unavailable from the publisher no matter what you did. On the road which went the same way and medieval fortress which was a part work and utterly disintegrated before it reached its concluding issues in any way. Also that particular part works publisher was based in Spain and so complaining to trading standards as I did revealled it to be an utter waste of time. I was for your information on all three cases a subscriber.
Yes I am a total cynic about such things and the state if you can call it that of this hobby and the manufacturers supplying it. But hel don't you dare believe me! Go on! Get your hard earned cash out and buy it! Am done with this

I can hear where Tim is coming from as I know that the pall with the RC car was very disheartened after working on it and paying so much.
But that can also happen with an expensive one off kit (not part work) and being told that you can get an add on set to put the detail on.
My mother in law bought a large skale RC type 23 frigate kit for me on the premice that I could find the detail kit myself. What the shop keeper did not say was that the company had stopped making the kit years earlier.
I took a risk with the plane and like many of my kits I still have loads to do on it. But lucky for me I did not get caught out with any missing parts. Unlike Tim. And I know I would have been p***ed *ff too.
Nick
Any link to the Lanc build that was completed?

I received a PM from Tim last night which contained a couple of comments about the IPMS and the folks who post here, seems he is unhappy about the way he's been treated. Unfortunately, Tim has removed his details from the forum which means I couldn't reply to him and it seems he prefers to take his opinions elsewhere.
