This is my latest project I was going to build a orime mover BUT after going through Auslowe's catalog and seeing a hook loader in it which I think is a KFS unit I decided to do it instead even though it going to cost me an arm and a leg to get it, it should be a fun project (NOT) anyway it will be a longer term project as the SAR is also a conversion job as well and is one of Australia's most iconic prime movers ever built ever in 1:1 dorm or as a model. Thanks Nick this one will be my first conversion using a KFS kit in conjunction with a standard box kit so it will be an experience. Dingo

Hi,
I've got one of these conversion kits - but haven't touched it for years. I'll be interested to see how you get on with it. Keep us up to date with how it goes!
Cheers,

No worries Wolfy I'll do that for Ya, here is the Hook Loader I'll be using at the moment it's only a copy of the Auslowe catalog and yes the price at the top right hand corner is the price I'll be paying here in Australia, it may be cheaper in the U.K. U'll have to let me know on that one guys. Sorry about the quality, I did have several goes at getting it better but they all were worse than this one. Dingo

Hi Dingo
Hope you doing well down under. Will be looking in on this to see how you get on and what you have to say about the hook loader kit. Looks like it will make a nice combo with the bull nose Kenworth.
All the best
Nige

Actually Nige the Bull Nose Kenny and the SAR are 2 different rigs even though they look the same they're not, plus the fact about the SAR is that it was built here in Australia at Kenworths Bayswater plant in Victoria where they still build their rigs today, it is a big plant and they build all the models of Kenny's there including the new style SAR which looks nothing like the old one. U know Nige it's amazing how many people confuse the SAR with the Bull Nose BUT hey I won't hold that against ya Nige it is confusing to those who don't know. I wonder what Mr. Kent and Mr. Worthington would of thought if they were able to see the old SAR or for that matter any of the new model Kenworths these days, if U are wondering why I've put these 2 gentlemen in it's because thy R the founders of the Brand. Cheers Dingo

Hi,
Any chance of getting some reference pictures or some good facts on SARs - it'd help with my build - and might even provide the motivation to get the project going again!!
Cheers,

This is as far as it has gone with the build as a matter of fact I have actually stick it back in the box until I can get over my tennis elbow which will be about a month if all goes well. as U can see no cab mounts as yet, I have to do a whole heap of measurements to get that right. They do look agresive from the front. Just to give U an idea of how aggressive they look in real life complete with bullbar. This photo was taken by my wifes sister when she was alive, Krystal past away back in 2008 I think of a peanut alergy she did not know she had, she was a keen photographer of trucks and now I have all her photos which at last count was around 2,750 non of which R in photo albums BUT in shoe boxes. This photo was taken back in the late 1970's when I was driving this rig for a friend of mine and at the time didn't know either Krystal or Kerin funny how things turn out years later hey. Dingo * Ayup folks, Dingo has asked me to correct the title of this post so if you see 'modified' on your post you know what's happened.
Nick.

OK guys here's some news on this hook loader project IT'S DEAD, I have decided to go back to the 70's on this one and do a flat-top semi complete with load and with some of the load tarped up and some of it uncovered to make it interesting, SORRY guys but the hook loader kit is now out of my pocket as far as the money goes I just can't justify the $188.50aust on my meager pension that has to feed two of us plus keep house and everything else, Please don't get me wrong guys I'm not screaming poor or anything like that I have always had a philosophy that if I can't afford it and I can't justify it within reason of my sanity I don't buy it even truck kits here in my home state R hitting the $100 mark per kit and I thin that is disgusting when kits in the U.S can be bought for 1/4 of that price, I've seen truck kits on U.S websites for $40 -$60us and even the Yanks R complaining about that so who is the middle man making a heap of $$'s on us poor truck builders. Hi Dingo, Sorry to hear the decision you have reached regarding the hook - but obviously a wise one.
I`ve been toying with the idea of scratching one (because of the cost) - how about you going down that route?

Jim, I have thought about that as well and in actually fact I have built the platform part of it out of cardstock BUT to make it look any good at all it would have to have at least some plastic in it and Jim I don't know if the cardstck would hold the weight of the plastic even thin stuff, I take a photo of the platform and U can see wot I mean.
