Just a quick update to let you know what I`ve decided to have a go at next. It`s a high reach concrete pump. I`m still collecting data and photos from the internet and still havn`t decided which truck I`m going to base it on. I`d be delighted to hear from anyone who may have close-up details of the boom joints etc. I`ll try and update this thread at every stage because it`s what I love to see in other people`s builds.

I`ve made a definite decision as to which direction I`m going in regarding this build. I`m aiming for something like this by replacing the MACK with a heavily modified Scania.

Jim, I presume that the pic shows an American concrete pump as it's a Mack, are there any major differences in the American and European systems, apart from the cabs and chassis that is? If you wanted to opt for the American Mack rig and wanted to use an available kit cab, the Volvo cab used in the Italeri TTL is also badged as a Mack.

Mick, Thanks for that. As you are no doubt aware, I`m not one for attempting to make absolute copies of anything. I am always keen to keep everything to 1:24 scale and the builds must be credible. In other words - if they were built as 1:1 they would do the job intended. This gives me loads of room for modelers licence. I realize that this approach no doubt makes the purist shudder. Unfortunately I`ve never been one.

One came into wetherby services not so long ago. If memory serves me right, i think it was an Actros 8 legger but did not get any pics as my boss was on site at the time. That could be an awesome build jim.

Wetherby services? So you're local to me then.
I work in York and live in Kippax just up the road.

Prior to starting this build, I need to sort out how I`m going to achieve these curves. The general consensus of opinion appears to be that styrene tube will not work and I can`t find any rod of that diameter. Would aluminium be a good alternative or does anyone have a really brilliant idea? I`m going to need about a dozen bends.

what size is it, does it need to be hollow ? if not, how about using metal wire. bend it around a mandrel, cut it to size, make one then take a mould of it. then cast replicas. if you don't have casting stuff, don't panic. a simple mould can be made from milliput, then cast using car body filler, you could even reinforce it with wire to increase strength.
