Rolf,
I never know where my own thoughts are going!
Swiss Mirage III RS coming along nicely, for someone who's into RAF Photo Recce.......
Venom, not started, but Recce pods are made, for when I do the Venom hopefully for SMW 2007.....
Still surprised myself!
Please don't huddle alone....

Having sweet talked the mem I now have the 1/48 Tamiya 262 on order along with the necessary resin conversion parts for the nose camera bay assembly and cockpit. The only slight disappointment is that I couldn't get the wing slats but seeing as that particular 'upgrade' is nearly £15 I may just have to build it with the inaccuarcy.
Cant wait to get started so will either have to rush the B17 or better still put it to one side. Will post progression photos as i go.

Paul,
no need to worry about "inaccuracy" which may be just an expensive possibility - not many pics of 262's with extended slats on the ground.
Maybe an expert could enlighten us if Me 262 slats where of the spring loaded variety which only opened with enough suction due to high incidence.... and would be closed on the ground.
Have fun with the conversion to recce !

I have read a number of articles that state that the slats deployed automatically on landing and remained 'open' on the ground. Ill have a look around but to be honest the reviews I have read so far regarding the slats is that they are more trouble than they are worth. I am sure plenting of enterprising luftwaffe ground crew 'closed' the slats on the ground to keep the innards clean.
Anyhow - cant wait to get started. Ill post phots regularly on here when I start.

Hi All.
Have started the 1/72nd ICM Do 215 B. Comparing wing broadness with Airfix/Frog and the old Monogram kits the wings are almost exactly as broad as on the old Monogram (which is widely acknowledged to be too broad).
I only have old Aeromodellers Plans of the Do 17 E/Z.
Has anybody other good plans in 1/72nd ( even if I usually don't heavily rely on plans ) to permit a cross-check ?
Otherwise the kit looks very nice with extremely thin injected parts - especially for undercarriage braces which are broken on the sprue already...

Hey Rolf, Hope you had a good new year.
I have hit a bit of a brick wall with researching the 109 E5. Now I know that the 109 is probably the most written about aircraft in the world but i have come across conflicting references with regard to the camera bays.
I have an E4 kit which I wish to convert to the E5 recce variant. The references I have gleaned from various sources point to a single camera behind the cockpit with a sliding aperture in the bottom of the fuselage. A resin conversion is available although this is advertised as the conversion for the 'Gustav'. All references I have seen for the G variant all point to a twin camera configuration with two apertures in the fuselage seen as square windows.
Other general references show the sliding aperture although no specific variant is mentioned. There is also a little confusion whether the E5 had its guns removed or not. I am tempted to believe that field modified E4's were fitted with cameras but with their guns left in situ ready to revert back to E4.
As it is I intend to do the E4 with the resin insert to make it an E5. I also intend to remove the wing mounted guns but leave the cowling mounted guns as a compromise. Would you agree with my assumptions?

Hello Paul,
I'm at a loss answering - exept for Hikoki Aufklärer and Classic Colours I & II I have not been able to unearth data covering 109's and tech. detail of recce fit.
Maybe something to be found in SAMI's datafiles which I do not posess - anybody else able to the help ?
Will try to sound our collegues at ipms Deutschland if there is any known data on tac recce 109's available.
Good modeling, Rolf

Hi Paul. In spite of reservations I took the plunge and registered at LEMB too - worst fears come through - now I shall lose still more time surfing another very interesting forum instead of building Wonder if you will get more info after posting there.... Will try ipms Germany - but data on tac recce really seems to be sparse. cheers, Rolf

The guys from the Luftwaffe forum came up trumps as did I with a little more searching. I can fairly confidently say that the E5 and certain 'Gustavs' used the single camera sliding aperture set just behind the cockpit. The only mark that used the twin window configuration was the G8. Both the G4/R2 and G5/R2 used the sliding aperture.
With regard to the gun configuration the Gustavs lost their wing mounted guns but retained a single engine mounted MG 151 cannon. The Emil on the other hand has ferences to wing mounted MG 17's on one example and cowl mounted MG 17's on another.
Guess Ill just have to take pot luck.

Listen In - there is a review over on Hyperscale of 'Recon for Rommel' by Stefan Ommert, looks to be pricy but has plenty of photos showing some unusual schemes - one for Father Christmas perhaps ?

Saw the book for sale a little while ago - perhaps I could persuade the mem it would make a good Valentines Day pressie (for me, not her).
