Hello Paul & All. - re Do 17 Z-3 You need look no further - have found a fairly well documented Do 17 Z-1 from Westa in "Wekusta", stationed at Bad Zwischenahn and making a good companion to my Ju 88 D-5 from the same unit. regards, Rolf Rolf, Are you still looking for info on the Do-17Z? I have 14 detailed photos, totalling 1.85Mb in size. LMK if you want me to email them to you. Larry

Larry,
Of course interested - even though I do have some data and AirDoc + Kagero + Classic Colours books I am still looking for a possible Z-3 version with camera bulge in entry hatch and also for details of engine covers/exhaust arrangement.
Many thanks in advance

With thanks to Biggles, Kit and others: Last year I was researching V/KG 40 camo and looking for an article sic Some years ago there was a very good modelling article by Andrew Armstrong in Scale Aircraft Modelling (Vol 22 / Nbr 10, December 2000) on the controversial colour scheme of those Ju 88’s, stating his interpretation of a camouflage version of light grey / blue (possibly RLM 76) as a base coat with stripes and patches added in dark grey 75. Thought you might be interested in my interpretation.... more pics on: www.ipms.at/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=282&Itemid=44English build report available on demand. Thanks for the help and hope you enjoy. Rolf

Only just realised that I might have to explain why I am showing a day fighter without cameras in a recce thread .... It's stretching the recce theme a bit but V/KG40 flew armed reconnaissance over the Bay of Biscay and KG 40 was first and foremost a recce unit. Hope you agree... Rolf

Rolf,
What can I say..... Your models are always lovely.... Every time I see one in the flesh, I feel like an enthusiastic amateur....
So glad I do not attempt Luftwaffe models, after seeing yours, all I could do would just make me feel inadequate....
Hey, armed Recce still counts, cameras or not....
I am keeping an eye on this thread, as when I come to the end of my 'to do pile', I may just bite the bullet and have a go........
Such colour schemes, and history, who can deny it.....
Dare I ask about suggestions as to where I should start...?
Keep going on trying to post photos, after a while you get the hang of it...
Colin

Colin, John, thanks for the applause - feeling a little bit embarrassed.... There is nothing special to Luftwaffe schemes compared with any other non German camo really, just more time consuming if mottling, winter camo and "squiggles" are applied! You will have to try Luftwaffe sooner or later as I do intend to do Allied subjects again sooner or later....don't want to be known as "germanophile" only Rolf

Many thanks in advance rolf.blattner@sunrise.ch Rolf, Just sent you the pics all in one email, LMK if you get them okay. Did you know the old Monogram 1/72 Do-17Z has the camera bulge, for the lower hatch. I was going to start working on mine, but I dread having to totally redo the inaccurate wheel wells. Larry

Larry,
Excellent pics - 14 arrived safely - very many thanks !
Murphy's law - they would have been handy for doing the 215 already but will be most welcome for the planned 17 Z.
Intend to modify the Monogram by reducing depth of wing by cutting out a strip spanwise. Project for later, still dabbling with 88's.
Thks again, Rolf

I spent a fortune on two Hase Ju 88 variants - an A-4 and a R-2 - for crosskitting to be able to do my 88 C-6 above. It was an investment in another project as well. For some time I had been toiling with the idea of trying to do a 88 B. So I started cutting templates of the front section for a "B" cockpit from plasticard according to drawings and pics from the AJ Press book nbr 11 on the Ju 188/388. To be able to try to vacu-form the clear parts I had to produce the "master" in 3 parts. After many layers of plasticard and a lot of filing and sanding this is the result... Murphy's law again - being that far I found out LF are offering resin kits of the Ju 88 B for some time. At £ 51.- plus shipping and expenses I decided to continue... Rolf

part 2 The 3 parts were temporarily fixed together with white glue and adapted on the fuselage bulkhead. Dimensions all around were then reduced to allow for the thickness of the clear sheet when vacu-forming. The 3 individual plasticard masters were "unglued" and prepared for having resin masters produced by a modeller friend and professional caster. - waiting for the resin masters ....

Ju 88 B – part 3 Upper & lower “test” clear parts were vacu-formed before sending the masters away. While waiting for the resin masters I started adapting and altering the cockpit assy. First I cut out the rear “floor” on the rh cockpit half where there should be the opening/entry between cockpit and lower gondola. After joining the halves I removed the coaming in front of the former windscreen and cut off the sides according to the angles of the new framing. The canopy sill line on the fully glazed cockpit is higher compared with the original. Using the clear test part as a reference I added plasticard strips to raise the side and sill. The width across the parallel sides and the underside of the assy was reduced by some 0.5 mm each to enable the “core” to be fitted inside the clear “envelope”.
