This year is not the problem, but next year you will see a hooded figure stealing 1/72nd scale Phantoms when no one is looking.

Hello all!
Took Ken, the 86 year old ex Spitfire PR pilot to the BBMF a few weeks ago! What an experience! Ever seen an 86 year old man 'skip' across the hangar to get up close and personal to an aircraft he had not seen for 60 years!
God what an experience, they treated him like royalty, even numerous people asking him for his autograph! He said he felt like royalty, took a while for him to realise they were being genuine.....He is such an unassuming chap, didn't realise that others appreciated or knew! What he and others did all those years ago.........
Was hugely happy to see how well the aircraft are maintained. He got to PM631 and wanted to spring straight upon the wing, I could see his leg trying to reach up, but couldn't, so, a young airman came straight across with a set of steps, Ken was straight up there, and to see the look upon his face as he peered inside a cockpit he had not seen for 60 years and then rediscover the smell of a Spitfire...........That is a memory that will stay with me forever....
Listening to him talking to those young airmen, fascinating! He was quite obviously re living those times, and to listen to him tell them of what they did........Wow! ....interesting to hear him describe being chased by Mustangs whenever he went close to bombing missions, obviously the Americans have had a problem with "blue on blue" for quite a while..........
The display for this year comes on, I am doing an aerial display of UAV's, WOW doing models with no undercarriage and no canopies! it's marvelous, enjoying this......Thoroughly recommend Unicraft models....the resin UAV's I have had so far, nice!
Look forward to hearing from the rest of you............

Hi Colin, I'll have to get the ruler out over the weekend, but I think I've promised you three, all in 1:48: U-2C; RF-4C of 10th TRW, named "Starize"; F-3A Havoc of 10th PRG named "Starize". I've just added wings to the latter tonight. Good grief, did you say four months??? Incidentally, this one won't be ready in time for this year, but would a "war-weary" Spitfire Vb, used as a type conversion trainer for its PRXIs by the US 8th AF's 7th PRG, count? Also, you may wish to know the SIG shirt had an outing to the Salisbury show recently, albeit behind the Avon stand, thought I'd fly the flag for two in one so to speak. Cheers,

The other, a SH variant, maritime RECCE....RECCE pod coming along, again any one want me to take a cast?

You want out of the box, just managed to get my hands on a 1/72 WWI German Drachen Observation Balloon!
No way this makes Telford 07, you will understand when you see the rigging diagram!

Julien, Sounds intriguing! Love to see what an earth that is? Would be an interesting addition to the collective display....How the hell do you rig something so that it free stands? Might be worth talking to Dennis about rigging airships, he's in the middle of one..... What else are you hoping to bring this year, have thought about your 'to do' list and looked at your purchases last year..... Looking forward to response........ Colin

Colin,
Actually, I'm not rigging at the moment as I'm in rain soaked, gale blown Lincolnshire just south of Spalding looking after two precocious grandchildren at my daughters place til the end of next week. The Draken Observation Balloon sounds brilliant - right up my street. Who makes it and are there any other types on the market Julien?
Left three Hurricanes, a Phantom and an RF-8 primed hanging in the shed. Painting, decalling weathering etc should be complete by end of August.
Couple of queries. Are there any restrictions on helium filled balloons at SMW and can I add a Tiger Moth (Burma Volunteer Air Force) to the list as I am getting bi-plane rigging withdrawal symptoms?

Dennis,
No idea about restrictions regarding helium filled floating balloons at SMW, despite having been going there for last couple of years.
I know that there has been plenty of 'hot air' buoying things up, so shouldn't imagine helium should be treated any different....after all its not flammable, and at least if it escapes...as 'hot air' tends to, at least with Helium you get the entertainment of 'Mickey Mouse' voices.....
But, will make enquiries........
Oh by the way, welcome to the sodden and squelchy bit around Yorkshire and Lincolnshire......My cat, I noticed today, is developing 'webs' between his claws, most amusing.
Tiger Moth, well how can I turn you down! .....I wait with baited breath for your next addition...
By the way if your at Spalding, I'm not too far away, and I'm off for the next week. Fancy meeting up? I could bring you some twine to practice your rigging.................Give me mail.

Julien,
WOW I have to see that in the flesh, it looks amazing...how does it stand up, force fields/ magnets/the dark side of the force, or discreet wires?
You are more courageous than me, I have to admit that I would never attempt something like that...
Pity you say it will not be ready for November...
What else do you have in the 'to do' pile at the moment?
Anything you are planning on displaying?
Colin
