OK being as I'm at a stop waiting for parts for both MAN and bulker, I thought I'd have a straightforward build from the box of one of the kits I bought at SMW. An AMT Peterbilt. Thought I'd have a go at a US truck. Its clearly a dated kit, lots of flash and parts generally rattling around in the box. Made a start on the engine which was OK until I couldn't find a few pieces. Trouble is, the parts aren't numbered. I looked all over the sprues and couldn't find anything that looked like them... Anyway eventally I looked on the chromed sprue and there they were. Half the engine parts are chromed Anyone know if this is standard practice on US trucks? I reckon I'll just prime them up with the rest of the engine. Wolfie.

Wolfie, get all the chrome bits you need for the build (some of the parts will be for alternate builds) and put them into a bowl, pour bleach or Mr Muscle on them and take the chrome off. Give them a good wash and then prime as normal.

The yanks refused to use them. Which Pete do you have COE or conventional

I use Mr Muscle to achieve this as Nick recommends. Before rinsing the parts off I place a mesh Tea Strainer I got a 50p in the local tat shop in the p-lug holes saves embarrassment

OK I have got this thing into an advanced stage, so some observations. Soooo much flash, and some really poor mouldings in some cases. I appreciate that this is an old kit, and I'm glad that things are improved. The instructions do leave summat to be desired but mostly you can work it out. However I'm having a bit of difficulty with the interior which appears to show three seats? Where does the 3rd one go? Trouble is there are four with the kit. Any ideas anyone? Ted did you say you had a better manual for this thing? And why is everything chrome??? I have done 4 dechroming sessions so far. I mean a few odds like the door handles and stuff I can understand but why would they spend loads extra chroming parts that we are just gonna dechrome LOL there ya go, Wolfie.

Wolfie the reason you get all that chrome is because US trucks have all that chrome on them. and they don't spend loads making chrome they just use a few ally strips in a vacum chamber and put a charge through them. right there isn't 3 seats but the pasenger seat is a base and the seat the drivers seat is made up from several bits to represent the sprung seat as used in those days here is the instructions I did for AMT/ Matchbox is this what you are building? I built this 30 yrs ago good luck Ted

Aha thats the same truck all round.
Same instructions but with numbers, are parts 54 and 85 all one seat then? Cos thats not how it looks on my sheet.
Anyone know anything about interior colours?
LOL This was supposed to be a quick build-from-the-box.
Wolfie
PS Whats a pogo stick? and do they have different suzies?
