At several shows last year, and especially SMW 2008, I talked with several vehicle modellers about the possibility of starting an Emergency Vehicles special interest group, hence the group build at the moment elsewhere on this board. I originally ran the 'Trucks & Emergency Vehicles' SIG some years ago and the emergency vehicles portion was very popular. So, if there's any modellers out there who would be interested in an Emergency Vehicles SIG, I'd like to hear from you, oh, and please include your membership number.
My particular interest would be in Fire / Rescue vehicles.

Shall we just recreate the A1 in 1/24? Friday night with a big pile up for Nick and his fire engines.

... Nick you can always borrow my fire trucks for shows Ted Thanks Ted, I was just seeing if there would be enough interest in a SIG, if there is, then we'll go ahead with it. I'd also like to include military vehicles as some of the emergency stuff they have is amazing, one of the reasons for doing the Unimog Pilot Rescue Truck a couple of years ago. .. and here it is: home-and-garden.webshots.com/album/548511841bagTWE

I tell ye, people REALLY move from the outside lane of the motorway with a quick flash of the strobe lights hidden behind the Grille. Not that I know of course My Brother In Law has an unmarked Mercedes as a Paramedic Response Vehicle. He only uses them in emergency, like when he's late for dinner. Phil

OK Folks, I've received a couple of PM's on this subject from members who would join an Emergency Vehicles SIG. So, I approached the Branch / SIG Liaison Officer Rob Monfea at the EC meeting today and he's agreed that if we can get 5 IPMS members to sign up for the SIG, he'll put it forward for approval. Just a quick note, although I would join and support the SIG, I don't have the time to run it, so a leader will have to be found. Any volunteers?

A slight rethink of the last statement, if there's anyone who would like to start an 'Emergency Vehicle' SIG, then I need to hear from you. The group would encompass all the emergency services, not just the main fire, police and ambulance, but those services which sit in the background such as Mines Rescue, etc. In order to have as wide a base as possible, I propose that the SIG would not only be land based, but air and sea also such as The RNLI and Coastguard.

Nick, What is involved in running a SIG? I possibly could do it.

This thread seems to have lain dormant for a while so I can only presume that apart from a couple of members of this forum, there is little interest in forming an Emergency Vehicle SIG? To form a SIG, there is a requirement to have 5 core members, however, to form a successful SIG, there has to be a wider membership other than the core members. Therefore, if anyone has an interest in becoming a member of an Emergency Vehicle SIG, can you please email me and include your membership number: ipmsukwebmaster@btinternet.com
