Ha, ha Barrie, only a bit mad ;D I've been concentrating today on the lower cab interior, trying to get that well used look the the SQMS's admin wagon always took on, even when nearly new! I've still got some work to do on the dashboard, but I'm reasonably happy with progress.... Cheers Steve

Unfortunately I never annotated any of my TA photos with dates or locations, which in hindsight is a massive pain !!!!! Nige Hi Nige A couple of suggestions: Some processors printed the date/time of processing on the back of the prints - turn it over to see! Alternatively there may be something on the negatives? Great build Steve Rich

Thanks Rich.
What did other folk pile on the back shelf of the cab, because it looks a bit empty at present? Would '58 pattern webbing do the job, or should I be thinking of other stuff?
Cheers Steve

Oh my God! Cheese possessed! Best food I ever tasted, but it only ever got served when you were absolutely starving....
A couple of horror-bags and a 10 man rat pack, in addition to the webbing could look pretty good...
Have a cracking New Year!

The obligatory magazine, either rolled up or opened at a convenient point !!!!!!!!!!!! Is it SLR's that you have with the Bedford ? What about the old tin lid and the gas mask and bag as if on exercise The crash mat and slug ?? A couple of basic maps of UK or Germany Bar of choc and a large bottle or cans of Irn Bru ?? Are you going to add the convoy flags and the other standard issue items ?? Nige

Nige, You're bringing it all back to me now! . Can you remember what colours the convoy flags were - I remember green, yellow, and I think red, but I'm sure that there were others? Not being a driver, I didn't really need to know.... What were the other standard issue items? I also like the idea of the slug and crash mat, and the S6 and bag... Cheers Steve

Green and blue were start and end of convoy (need to check which was which) !!!!!
Yellow was for broken down !!!!!!!!!!!!
Red on armoured vehicles was for armed during live firing (I think) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There is a document which gives the various standards of equipment issue for normal driving, war footing, etc !!!!!!!! I can't recall the document type !!!!!!!!!!!!! I do have something from a training disk on the DAF that will be to a similar level of most trucks !!!!!!
The DAF could be issued with chocks for the wheels, ratchet straps, chains/strechers (instead of ratchets), fire extinguishers, brush, shovel, drip tray for oil !!!!!
Camo nets cut to a size appropriate for truck and/or trailer !!!!!!!!!!! DROPS carried two equal massive nets so could hide truck and King trailer !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anti glare screens from painted canvas or that brown or black woven plastic material that came on two or three meter long (carpet style) roles to be cut to size !!!!!!!!!!
Lengths and widths were cut appropriate to mask the various windows, mirrors, lights, reflectors, etc that could cause glare.
Small ones to act as a quick cover when halting for brief periods, and much larger ones (full cab size) or truck size, to break up the shape and outline of the vehicle, wheel or track configuration !!!!! These larger covers would be used in urban or industrial locations to mask the vehicle against building sides, containers in a yard or other generally boxy backgrounds !!!!!!!!!!!
In rural locations, the canvas or plastic sheets helped mask the heat signature of engines, generators, people or just sun on metal when under the camo nets in a hide location !!!!!!!!!!!
Black plastic water and and the metal fuel Gerry cans !!!!!!!!!
Jack, handle and levelling block !!!!!!!!
Rags for dipping oils and fluids and for cleaning windscreens and lights !!!!!!!!
Clip board/leather folder for driver's vehicle papers, handover sheets, sleep/driving hour notes, load descriptions/warning notes, etc !!!!!!!!!
If carrying Gerry can fuels or explosives, the tin orange Hazmat and coloured/detailed Hazchem plates or stickers to apply to the vehicles and trailer !!!!!!!!!!!!
Having lived and worked with the Bedford MK UBRE during exercise for two weeks, I did not find it great fun, especially as there was ferk all places externally to store personal kit !!!!!!!!!!!!!
And when you had to get something from your bergins or strip down webbing kidney pouches on the move, such as your noddy suits, poncho, ammo pouches, water bottle, mess tins, rat-packs, rifle cleaning kits !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And you had to have your own personal kit for R and R which normally involved another bag !!!!!
And then there were folks that went on exercise with mini TV's, radios and other creature comforts that they would lug around !!!!!!!!!!!!
All fine if you have a G10 wagon, comms wagon, meat wagon or even a DROPS.
DOUBLE MANNED IN A UBRE IS NO FUN AT ALL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hope some more ideas for clutter, but with all that lovely detail in the cab and massive load bed, you have the luxury of space in the back !!!!!!!!!!!!

bowman, Re: your flags, its blue for the first vehicle in a packet or convoy and green for the last vehicle, yellow if the vehicle has broken down. on the shelf at the back there were 2 gun racks for the crew personal weapons and you could only just get your webbing up there on top of them. so we usually just crammed the webbing on the floor in front of the heater and where the passenger footwell meaning that the passenger usually had his feet up on the dash, this meant the paint on the p side dash wash usually buffed away down to bare silver metal.
hope this helps.
I was also a JCB 410 instructor and i have the full training package on disc which i can copy and send to you and nige, lots of good diagrams and dimentions in it. if you want it then you need to let me know quickly as im off on deployment next week.
And finally the bedford is stunning mate, a first class build hope to see it finished.

Single manned vehicle would leave you space to show off all that lovely interior detail !!!!!!!!
Remember ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, if you gonna do single manned, you might want to lose one of those rifles otherwise some numpty is gonna be on a charge for either loss of kit, or worse still, loss of his weapon !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ALL DONATIONS GREATFULLY RECEIVED !!!!!!!!!! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha !!!!!!!
I am thinking of trying to have a go scratching an SA80 or two for my vehicles !!!!!!!!

Hi Steve
Was thinking about the kit we carried and remembered the poles and circular heads for erecting camo nets on !!!!!
Also some folks would carry a folding camp bed or even the chairs !!!!!
I took a hammock with me and used it a good few times !!!!!!! There was one of those quick scaffolds sitting in the utility shed on the German air base that I hung the hammock on !!!!!!!! was so comfy !!!!!! instead of the crashmat on the concrete floor !!!!!!!
