Martin, Steve and Iain, welcome to the forum, sorry about the joint welcome but the last couple of weeks have been a little hectic and I've not given the forum my usual all seeing concentration. I look forward to seeing your posts here.

Evening ladies and gents and Happy New Year to you all!
Thought I'd better introduce myself rather than stay anonymous as the 1,061st member of this fine forum. Have been on Britmodeller for a while and Rolf (Popeye) - a member of both that group and the IPMS Recce SIG - suggested I should join this group, particularly as it caters for one of my main modelling interests, cold war reconnaissance, especially Canberras.
A bit about me. I'm 47, employed by MOD, married with teenage sons, and live in Huntingdonshire under the 27 approach to RAF Wyton. I've had a deep interest in the aircraft based at Wyton since moving to this area 17 years ago. My long term goal is to build 1/72nd scale examples of all the aircraft and sqns/units based there since the 1950s. I'm especially excited about the announcement of the forthcoming Airfix Valiant as that will fill a gap from when 543 Sqn operated the B(PR)1 variant. I do also occasionally build other Western/NATO recce and transport/tanker aircraft, and have just completed a Mirage IVP which appeared on Britmodeller on Jan 1st.
Look forward to contributing when I can and admiring the fantastic modelling efforts that appear on this site.
Cheers all
Mark
PS Mods, how do I get my personal avatar to appear?

Hi Mark, and welcome to the world of recce. I have a bit of an interest in that area myself, but in terms of cold war stuff tend to concentrate on that lot with stars and bars up the road at Alconbury.

Hello Mike, Yeah me too! This area was for quite a while the centre of photo recce and SIGINT/ELINT in the UK with the 10th TRW RF-4Cs and later 17RW TR-1s at Alconbury in addition to 51 and 39 Sqns at Wyton. Not forgetting also the still extant JARIC at RAF Brampton and now the JAC at Molesworth.
I do have a 1/72nd Alconbury RF-4C in the collection and a U-2S is slowly rising o the top of the 'to do' pile!
All the best
Mark

Ahhh, the special interest groups.. I know someone locally who, I think runs the USAF one. Only one problem - where do I access such a group?
Sorry to be such a philistine!
John
